Prfnoff: Removed example from The Princess Bride, which fits more under False Reassurance.

Zerky removed spoiler from Doctor Who example. It was a horrifically long spoiler, the setup was the premise of the episode, and was thus, hardly a spoiler, the "work camps" were not described, and the very presence of the example here is a spoiler anyway. But, Zerky left spoilered quote and merged dialogue. Yes.

  • I was pretty startled by the number of people who experienced this in RL with pets. Our parents always just straight out told us they were dead (which, since we raised poultry, we understood without further explanation). We grieved and moved on. The only time I know of where this trope happened was when the death was directly caused by Dad, who felt specifically guilty about it (and even then, he confessed later on). Any other farm- or rural-raised tropers have this experience?
