Working Title: Supertrope to Power at a Price?: From YKTTW
There's a trope that I'm looking for here that I can't figure out the name for. It's one where a character starts with a reasonably "price-free" power which later gets a debilitating side-effect, such as Dave's laser vision in College Roomies From Hell which now causes blackouts and cranial hemorrhages. This is often the result of a series taking a Darker and Edgier turn. Is this a trope that's been missed?
