Illegal Third Child. launched as Population Control: From YKTTW

Working Title: Population Control: From YKTTW

Micah: Temporarily sticking this here for lack of attribution:

  • One character from 2061 was one of several children, and it is mentioned that each additional child brought higher and higher fines on the parents.
2061 is an impossible title to google, and I can't tell if it means the Clarke book or something else (I haven't read the Clarke, and the summary on Wikipedia makes no mention of population control).

Muninn: As the troper who added that example in the first place, I suppose I should clarify. It was indeed referring to the book by Arthur C. Clarke, but was only a passing detail that was mentioned once about the character, and never became an actual plot point. I don't exactly have access to my copy of the book at the moment, so I couldn't really put check on the specific details.

Micah: Fair enough. As long as it's clear which book it is...

Travis Wells: Don't know the name on this one, so I'm posting it here instead of the main article in the hopes it jogs someone's memory. ok, novel: Probably young-adult. Main character is the eldest of two children, in a world with a two-child limit. Overpopulation is still out of control, so the government starts shipping off the older child to "work camps". Predictably, they're really just slaughtering them and dumping their bodies in the ocean. One character has this happen to him, and smuggles a message back home about what's happening. The main character gets it, and murders his younger (brain-damaged by radiation in the womb) sister so that he'll be the only child, and not shipped off. 1990s or earlier.
