Ununnilium: Elmer did that at some other point? I was under the impression that this was a singular instance, part of the parody of operatic conventions.

Morgan Wick: I don't know for sure that he did - it's been a long time since I've seen any Looney Tunes - but Bugs has faked his own death numerous times, the point usually being to provoke this reaction out of his foes. The plot of this short was basically A Wild Hare, generally considered Bugs' first appearance despite numerous "pre-Bugs" rabbits in Warner Bros. cartoons of the pre-war era, AS AN OPERA. (Or a parody thereof.)

Seth: I cant tell you when but i sware ive seen Elemer Fudd to this as well.

AK47x2: Maybe I've got a dodgy copy, but isn't the Futurama line 'I've just told you, you've killed me', with no 'you idiot'?

HeartBurn Kid: I remember one short where Elmer goes Rip Van Winkle, and ends up hunting Bugs in the future with a ray gun. He hits Bugs, and thinks he's killed him, and goes into the whole My God, What Have I Done? thing, and then proceeds to start digging a grave for "that poor wabbit". Of course, Bugs gets up and helps Elmer dig the grave, then buries him in it...

Kizor: Yup, Elmer goes into Antagonist in Mourning whenever he actually succeeds. Poor guy. Point of interest, The Future in question was likely the year 2000.

Wellington: Added Miss Havisham from Great Expectations. Any other proto-examples?

Jim: By the way, interesting fact about the Enola Gay dropping the bomb on Hiroshima: what the log says isn't true, it was amended to sound more properly historical after the fact. What the guy actually said was "My God, look at that sucker go!" I'm considering putting that into the article.
Tanto: The Eternal Darkness example is basically useless. All the relevant information is behind a spoiler tag.

Vulpy: I was just considering making light of that fact by adding, And here's some more spoiler space....... inside that tag.

avatarjk137: Should there be a subtrope for this for the cases where the heroes look at their hands when they say it? I was surprised it wasn't already a trope.
People, this is a serious trope. Beyond the Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes examples, most times where this trope is invoked, it's not funny. So could someone please replace the current image of a retarded looking toddler doing a Facepalm ? Like say Doctor Frankenstein's reaction to his creation, Anakin Skywalker after causing Mace Windu's death, or Lelouch's reaction to the Euphinator incident. Something, anything.
Xen0nex I know this comic is funny, but maybe if you cropped it to just the last panel it would make an OK page image? http://alexds1.deviantart.com/art/Dialga-Battle-54932312 It almost has it word for word.
