From YKTTW Working Title: Mana Damage

  • Sgamer82 - Post-launch notes. The footnote from the Diablo II entry didn't work correctly. Because I didn't know what it specifically referred to/how it was meant to fit into the rest of the entry, I opted out leave it out entirely. Also, went through a Persona 4 FAQ but couldn't find any specific skill that halved SP, but did find treasure chest traps that did so. I edited the entry for that, but if I am wrong feel free to correct it accordingly.

Dragon Quest Z: The title is wrong. In Magic The Gathering, "mana burn" does damage to the player, not the mana points. Did you actually bother to look it up when I mentioned it?

  • Sgamer82 - I wasn't thinking of Magic the Gathering when I decided to use it, but of the World of Warcraft and Diablo II examples.

Ethereal Mutation: In Final Fantasy XI, the term "mana burn" refers to having a team that consists only of mages kill stuff through spells. It can also simply refer to the act of killing only through magic. I support renaming this. MP Damage would be direct and to the point.

  • Sgamer82 - Something like "Mana Damage" was my original thought, but it too strongly implied damage with Mana instead of damage to Mana. I think Mana Burn works though, as it fits the trend of Mana Drain & Mana Shield and is the name of an actual spell in at least two games (three if you count Ragnarok Online's "Soul Burn") which performs as per the trope.
