There are a number of historical examples that come to mind for me, but I don't know how appropriate they are for this page. The ARVN 18th Infantry Division at Xuan Loc, 1975. The Turkish Brigade at Wawon, Korea, 1950. C Company of the 1/13th Kumaon Light Infantry at Rezang La, 1962. The details of any of them are harrowing to read, not least because they were real events where actual human beings fought and died.
Fiction, however well crafted, can hardly compare to such things—at best it can only give us perspective.
