- Oz. The boss of the Latinos in Em City (Season 2-3) is Raoul Hernandez, nicknamed "El Cid" (The Merciful). As he's been convicted for fatally running a man through with a steel pole, and later orders a correctional officer blinded, this is clearly meant to be a very bad joke.
I don't know if it's specifically stated that his name is intended to mean "the merciful," but El Cid is the common nickname of an extremely famous Spanish warrior. "Cid" in this case comes from the Arabic word for "lord." It's very fitting for a powerful, hispanic gang leader to be called El Cid.
