Mister Six: Excellent trope. I'm embarrassed to admit that this never occurred to me before!
Krid: How is Metroid a partial subversion? As far as I can recall, you can't see through walls with IR in any Metroid game.
Prioris: Sadly, you can - the outlines of active doors appear through walls pretty much everywhere except Magmoor (but then again you can't see anything in Magmoor). Also, the metroids in the Phendrana labs and the Phazon mines are visible through their containment tubes/panels, though the material probably isn't glass and hence may not be IR-opaque.
