Specialist290: Pruning a few quotes:

Mutt: What's he going to do next?
Marion: I don't think he plans that far in advance.
- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Mickey: How do we do that?
The Doctor: Oh, I'll think of something.
Mickey: You're just making this up as you go along!
The Doctor: Yep. But I do it brilliantly!

  • It's fairly obvious that he is lying, however, as he proves himself capable of setting up multiple Xanatos Gambits over the course of the film. Sure, he's good at improvising, but he's also one hell of a schemer.
    • This troper has heard it stated that the Joker is not nearly as insane as he appears or claims to be, because some who was truly as insane as he says he is...well, for starters, they'd claim they were perfectly sane, because, in much the same way as you can only contract Stockholm Syndrome if you don't know about it, you can't be insane if you're aware you're insane, but more to the point, he wouldn't have the focus to come up with all these criminal plots: what would start out as a plan for the bank heist of the century would devolve into a means of getting cheese to make itself a scapegoat for the chupacabra and end up a vague notion to go buy some donuts-and then, when he put it into action, it would probably turn into a compelling urge to go to the museum and eat some classics.

Because A: that second part shows an egregious lack of understanding of mental disorders, and B: how many of his actions the Joker had planned in advance in a question for the ages.
