Working Title: How Dare You Say That! I\'ll Validate It!: From YKTTW
Have Space Suit—Will Travel might have a case of this in the Humanity on Trial sequence. I remember John C Wright blogging about it recently, but I don't remember the book well enough to add it. —Document N
This is a bad name for the Trope. "I Resemble That Remark" (originated by Groucho Marx) should be when someone accuses someone of a characteristic, and that person gleefully says, "Yep, I am!"
For instance:
Kung Fu Panda:
- Tai Lung
- "You can't defeat me! You're just a big, fat panda!"
- Po
- "I'm not just a big, fat panda. I'm THE big, fat panda!"
The Muppet Show:
- Sam the Eagle
- "You, sir, are a demented, sick, degenerate, barbaric, naughty... FREAKO!"
- Alice Cooper
- "Why, thank you!"
It all stems from Groucho Marx's bit in which someone portrays him negatively but accurately, but he says, "I resemble that remark!" ~~~~
Document N: That's already here at Insult Backfire.
CAD: Does the fact that "resemble" is wordplay on "resent" mean nothing? I think this trope name is perfect.
Excel-2010. I don't troll. I just argue vehemently against popular opinions for it's own sake.
