Zelnor:Why was the big SCP quote deleted? I thought it was quite fitting.

Pepinson: This is probably gonna sound stupid to people who actually know their physics beyond a theoretical high-school level, but why would a one-way trip to the sun be any more difficult than a trip to Mars? I mean, once you break orbit, you don't need to generate much more in the way of thrust—that's what the bulk of a modern spaceship's fuel is there for, really. It would certainly take a lot more time, but as long as you thought ahead enough to choose a trajectory that put your projectile out of the paths of Venus and Mercury, wouldn't you be home free? In fact, since you're sending your projectile on a one-way trip, and one meant to end with the incineration of whatever you're sending, you wouldn't need to worry about additional fuel loads, or even calculate a delta-v for a safe landing.
