- Sir Robert Peel. He founded the Metropolitan Police Force for London (as well as doing a more or less total reform of the police and jail system in the UK), which is why British police are called "Bobbies" and "Peelers".
- Discworld parodies that when it mentions that other cities are calling their Watchmen "Sammies" after Sir Samuel Vimes, a result of Ankh-Morpork trained watchmen taking up positions all over the continent.
