Working Title: Heroes Forget Fallen Friends and Family: From YKTTW

Deleted this:

  • In Gankutsuou, Franz pretends to be Albert in a duel to the death in order to save him from the Count. Franz knows he doesn't have a chance, but being a better fencer and armed with knowledge of the Count's one weakness, he thinks it's a worthy risk to save his friend. Albert cradles him as he dies. Two episodes later, he's not even the slightest bit angry at the Count for killing Franz, and insists The Power of Friendship can redeem him. It's worth noting he visits Franz's grave in the epilogue, but his non-anger is... disturbing.

While Albert's non-anger at the Count (Franz's death is one thing, but the Count has also betrayed him, caused the fall of his family, etc.) is baffling, and most probably simply the result of rushed writing, Franz is everything but forgotten. To start with, it's Franz himself who, in his last letter to Albert, urges him not to hate the Count and to love unreservedly - this is what gives Al strength to try to save the Count. Then, Al not only visits Franz's grave in the epilogue but spends pretty much all of the episode there, talking to him, telling him how desperate he was to live in stead of the Count, his father and Franz, and there's even a sequence symbolizing how Franz will not be forgotten. So Yeah... ~Barano
