Merlo: About the "males hitting females = Kick the Dog": I think Values Dissonance should be mentioned here, it was considered okay for men to slap women for most of history, the males must not hit females rule is pretty modern (besides in chivalry).
Markus Wolfe: I remember as a small child that a girl had to hit you 3 times before you could punch back, and if you hit a girl, she got 3 hits on you. I think it's supposed to be compensation for the whole glass ceiling thing.
