Cosmetor: A better title would be Dies Wide Open. There's no need for a reference to a random movie title when it goes against the meaning of the trope.

There is a movie called Vuk: The Little Fox (or just Vuk) a Hungarian movie about a young fox who's entire family is killed by a hunter. Then is adopted by his uncle Karak. Karak dies from a gun shot wound later in the movie with his eyes open. I haven't seen the english version in years but I bet they edited that scene out.
