Working Title: Deadly Euphemism: From YKTTW

  • The military with such famous expressions as "collateral damage" (accidentally wounding or killing civilians), "taking him out" (killing him) and "air support" (dropping bombs). Ironically, destroying a tank or airplane is referred to as a "kill." And "friendly fire" is a euphemism for the accidental killing or injuring of one's own troops or those of an ally.
    • 'Air support' is jargon, rather than euphemism: it specifically refers to the use of aircraft in support of tactical operations on the ground. This may or may not (but usually does) involve dropping things on people.
    • Likewise "collateral damage": for example, it also includes accidentally destroying a bridge you wanted to invade over.
That only leaves "take out", which I'd imagine means more "neutralize" or "take out of the fight", since people can in rare cases survive being taken down with multiple gunshots and such. So, cutting. —Document N
