Ununnilium:

  • The most obvious parody of this of all! Adam West's bizarre speech patterns in the 1960s television show [Batman.
    • Um, parody? This editor thought it was being played straight, as part of the unabashed campiness of it all.

Should this count? I thought the trope was about actual text-mangling.

Also, "one fanfic this editor once read" is a terrible example. Go get the name, please.

  • Surreal horror novel House of Leaves puts certain words in different colours for no apparent reason, specifically the words 'House' (in blue) and 'Minotaur' (in red). This adds to what is already a really, really bizarre book.
Not an example of a character talking oddly or as if in bold. This is already covered under Painting the Fourth Wall.
If it comes to a vote, I'll vote for making the description non-self-demonstrating in favor of being readable. —Document N
Diddgery: Would Pokemon be an acceptable example? The names of characters, Pokemon, and (until the fourth generation) moves are always in ALL CAPS, which gives the impression that the game is yelling off and on.
Mr Blonde 267: This page gives the impression that Bold Inflation is caused by bad writing. However, in comic books, words aren't typed out. There's a Letterer whose job it is to write all of the words in himself. I don't actually know the answer to this one, but I'm bringing it up because I see people make this complaint all the time. Couldn't this just as easily be the letterer's fault instead of the writer's?
