Meta Four: Removed the following examples because we're only interested in aversions when we're dealing with Omnipresent Tropes. Which this is not.

  • Averted in the new Battlestar Galactica; most noticeable in the beginning of season 2, where a good half the cast is drenched in blood for multiple episodes.
  • The "bloodless historical violence" variation was notably averted by Braveheart, starting a trend in Hollywood of going the whole hog with swords-and-arrows era action epics. Nowadays, as long as its PG-13 and above, you can pretty much expect them to go all out. For God's sake, just take one look at 300. Similarly, Saving Private Ryan is often credited with doing the same for films involving modern warfare.
<random troper>: I would argue that this is an Omnipresent Trope. As the description says, this was how pretty much all movies were done until very recently and a lot of PG 13 stuff still does it (particularly of the 'ketchup stain' variety).
