schism: I see no reason why video game genres wouldn't fit in this page, and "this won't do" isn't much of an explanation. Reverting...

marisako: I propose the following change to Touhou:

  • Embodiment of Scarlet Devil: Vampires attempt to plunge the world into eternal darkness. As you beat the crap out of this cliche, something horrifying from the past is revealed.
  • Perfect Cherry Blossom: Vengeful undead plan to rob all warmth from the world. You travel to the land of the dead and beat the unliving crap out of her. Your bushido will be tested.
  • Imperishable Night: Alien conspiracy threaten to shatter the balance of power. The only possible counter-conspiracy can break the world. You end up fighting what few good guys exist in this land.
  • ''Phantasmagoria of Flower View: The Time of Judgment is near, your sins are laid bare, and casualties mounted as you wage proxy warfare for what little hope of salvation possibly exists.
  • Mountain of Faith: Clash of civilizations fueled with religious militancy divide the holy land. Conflicts inevitable as you take drastic measures.
  • Subterranean Animism: Religious extremist plan to set the world on nuclear fire. You fight telepath and zombies in underground facility to prevent it.
  • Undefined Flying Object: Devastation caused by climate chaos force people to scavenge for life. Greed-fueled conflicts ensue. Also: UFO!

Mystery Man 23: Someone seems to be deleting this entry piece by piece. Maybe it's just my imagination.

shadowgirl_13_chaos No, it's not. Seriously, we need to do something about the billions of so-called "spoilers". I've been trying to edit, but it's taking too damn long. Anyone wanna help? Really, Is describing a show THAT bad of a spoiler someone needs to spend 67 hours editing out titles. Sorry about the rudeness ( Don't ban me I love this stupid place!), but I can't read any of the things that sound bad but are really pretty good! Maybe it's on purpose...

Blork: Replaced the Mass Effect example with something that's slightly less Complaining About Shows You Dont Like. The original was:

  • Mass Effect: Clichéd space marine runs into a series of old science fiction tropes that have been seen over and over again.

The thing about the Mario related entries is that as soon as you say the Plumber word, the game is pretty much given away. It's a bit hard to look at that scenario in a new light unless that word is omitted.

Big T: Not just Mario. A lot of these are too obvious. May need a cleanup...

((shadowgirl_13_chaos}} Here I am, once again, complaining about the spoiler editing. We GOT to do something about it. Our wiki pages look like friken' swiss cheese!

Lord Seth: Speaking of Mario, was there ever anything in the games that said they came to the Mushroom Kingdom by being sucked down a "magical toilet"? As far as I know, that was limited to the non-canon carton.

Agent CH: No, there wasn't. In fact, I'm pretty sure they haven't given any explanation as to how they got there. The popular fanon explanation not from the cartoon is that they entered the pipes in Mario Bros to find out where the enemies were coming from.

Lord Seth: Well, I adjusted it to make it more vague, by removing some of the things that screamed "IT'S MARIO!". It's still fairly obvious but comes across as slightly more of a surprise when the reader highlights it, I think.

cg12345: Maybe you could change "plumber" to something like "utilities technician".

shadowgirl_13_chaos Yeah, that's good. It's more funny when It's more specific. But, someone should change "toilet" to " green pipe" or something, it just sounds too literal.

Great Limmick: This is how I first described the game to a friend, but I'm not sure if the game is actually good enough to belong here... Blood Rayne: A half-vampire secret agent avenges her mentor against Nazi zombies.

shadowgirl_13_chaos It's a free wiki. Add whatever you think fits to the trope :)

igordebraga: Some alterations led some descriptions way Complaining About Shows You Dont Like...

Final Fantasy VII: Emo blond commits identity theft. ''Final Fantasy X: Whiny ball player pretends to have amnesia trying to get back home.

and one that's too revealing (Main character befriends Disney characters to save various franchised worlds.)

Caphi: I fail to see how the FF 7 description was Complaining About Shows You Dont Like. I scarcely think merely using the word "emo" to describe a protagonist who is, after all, honestly pretty angsty qualifies as flaming. What do you want to bet the same person who changed it likes Squall as a character?

Chris M.: "A video game that opens with a zeppelin being attacked by orcs in fighter planes." This *cannot* be better than it sounds. Because that's just not physically possible.

Peteman: Shouldn't Daikatana not be in there, because the game bombed?

Willy Four Eyes: True, but I heard that the Game Boy Color version (which is totally different from the mess that was the PC game) is actually quite good, but...yeah, let's get rid of it.

Korodzik: I don't really like the new Zero Wing description. It's a little too obvious, and besides, don't forget that brevity is... wit.
Man Called True: Having changed the Shadow Hearts: From The New World description this morning to eliminate Complaining About Shows You Dont Like, and from various other bits around the wiki (most of which have been cleaned up): someone on TV Tropes hates Johnny Garland.
Rissa: I'm torn on the description of Spore as "Everything." It's funny, and true, but - better than everything? There's at least one logical problem there.
Bahustard: There. I've given the article a full once-over. It's not perfect by a long shot — I don't know a lot of these games, and may have oversimplified past being funny. But it should be far leaner and meaner now.
cg12345: TIE Fighter descripiton is Made Of Win. Hee!
Qit el-Remel: I'm so editing the TBC bit. First of all, obvious game slang is obvious; secondly, contrary to claims, draenei really don't look much like goats.

KurisuMurei: Added mentions of Aya as the new 'Recurring Boss' and Yuka popping up in the ninth game in the Touhou series and was very tempted to make a mention of the similar roles between 'Magic-seeking Scientist' and 'Redneck Star', but couldn't find a good way to say it. Also, Mr. Kensou is NOT described properly at all. SNK's resident "Rambo Lookalike" is Ralf Jones. Too bad 'chinese boy' doesn't sound quite as interesting.

Falcon Pain: Kensou did look like that back in Psycho Soldier. (Also see his alt striker in KOF 2000.)

Are we really getting rid of all examples that are considered bad? I thought this page was about describing them in a manner that makes them sound ridiculous, and not about their actual quality.

While I'm on the subject:

  • Call Of Duty: Three more examples of the most overdone subgenre in video game history.

As The Defenestrator said when readding it, it does make it sound worse than it is. But do we really want this? Technically, we could write every game on this list as "Just some video game" and achieve the same effect, but then reading the page would no longer be enjoyable.

Pikawil: Rewrote the COD line to make it less Complaining About Shows You Dont Like, although the problem stands that the same phrase can be used to describe Medal Of Honor...

CAD: @Caphi: Hey! I spent almost 20 minutes coming up with that! What was wrong with it?

Nithael: I changed the Batman Arkham Asylum example from this:

  • A man in a creepy costume is locked in an insane asylum with an evil clown and other psycopaths. He ends up spending a lot of his time hiding from heavily-armed goons.
    • Guy who thinks he's a bat spends a night in an asylum talking to the voice in his head and getting into fights with a deranged amnesiac clown, a self-harming serial killer, a science experiment gone wrong and a girl who talks to plants.
    • That's not better than it sounds, because it sound's fucking awesome.
      • Yeah... But it's better then that.

to that:

  • An animal-cosplayer spends a night visiting a hospital, beating up patients and the personnel currently in charge and hiding on statues.
