Ununnilium: So how is this different from Hive Mind? And what exactly does "eusocial structure" mean?
BT The P: I think we may have lost the thread here. "Eusocial" means one reproductive female that does all the breeding for a colony of animals. The examples I added were of that type, as all the creatures I mentioned have "queens". The Zerg, the 'nids, and a lot of other hive-minded creatures don't.
Ununnilium: I think it needs to be explained a bit more in the entry.
Tzintzuntzan: I'm not sure how to fit this in, but it should be pointed out that the queen of the Bee People is usually nothing like a real bee queen. A Bee People queen resembles a human queen, and rules her sisters. A real bee (or ant) queen doesn't rule over anything — she's a glorified sex slave. (Glorified by humans, not by the bees.)Of course, most writers don't know that a bee queen isn't like a human queen.
Astrolounge: Actually, until more recent examples, human queens were like bee queens; They were mostly just used for continuing the royal line. Fortunately, that's not usually the case anymore.
fleb: Cutting The Smurfs. 'Semi-subverted' is kind of a meaningless term, and real subversions are really, really obvious. The Kaena example just lacks useful detail.
- * The Big Bad 's of the movie Kaena: the Prophecy are mostly female, with few males.* Semi-subverted with The Smurfs- their leader Papa Smurf is male, while Smurfette has no power in the community whatsoever.
