Harpie Siren: Uhh... couldn't we just mention this in Gender Bender, is it really deserving of it's own trope?

Susan Davis: Indeed. Or under Mandy's Law of Anime Gender Bending, which it's practically a corollary of.

Citizen: I agree. But while we're on the subject, see also RPG cliche 113: Place Transvestite Joke Here (Miss Cloud Rule): If the male lead is required to dress up like a girl for any reason, he will be regarded by everyone as much more attractive than any "real" girl. If the female lead cross-dresses as a man, she will be immediately recognized as who she is by everyone except the male lead and the main villain.

Seth: I've added a little to make it clearer but without more examples this is staying on the Cut List. A few more and it will work though.

Kizor: Oh, there are examples. Pratchett describes this - the transvestite version - as a trope in ''Jingo' and promptly subverts it. That said, I'm still on the lumper side. A sentence or two in Gender Bender should be adequate.

Paul A: There's already a related sentence or two in Bosom Buddies, for what it's worth.

Kizor: Hey, good catch. I'd say that covers this.

Scrounge: I'd say this has earned its own page through sheer prevalence, if nothing else.

Ununnilium: I just want to say that, as for Narbonic, I thought female-Dave was attractive.

Scrounge: If we start down this road, we'll wind up in some disturbing places... I suggest "Are they considered attractive in-story" as the criteria. Whether or not the reader feels the same way should be a separate issue.

Burai: Um ... when does this ever become relevant for Kuja? He's androgynous enough naturally to be mistaken for a woman when you first see him, but that's basically an artistic glitch. I don't think he's ever depicted/perceived in a feminine context (i.e. gender-bent or cross-dressing) in the story.

Susan Davis: If this entry is going to stick around, perhaps a better name can be found? The current one doesn't have a lot of punch.

Scrounge: "Tedd Hot"? ^_^

thatother1dude: whoever added the part about Ranma 1/2 was right Herb (the other guy with the girl curse) is bishounen (check the wikipedia page)

Scrounge: Okay, so here's a question... If the Wholesome Crossdresser is a "trap", would the Attractive Bent-Gender be a "booby trap"? A FEW SECONDS LATER: ...Wow, that sounded a lot less crass in my head.
Citizen: If there were not already a picture for this trope, this is the one I would have put up (the punchline for a 4koma):

Seth: That one is funny but it is a bit wide, i think the EGS one better fits the page as well.

Koveras: Not much of a notable example but when This Troper played a Gender Bender character in a tabletop RPG, he intentionally maxed out his character's female form's Charisma attribute at the expense of all other stats. ^^;

Prfnoff: I'm renaming The Clark Kent Effect to The Glasses Come Off, and can't tell the meaning of this sentence in the Cybersix example well enough to rewrite it properly:
One episode in particular shows Cybersix/Adrian Seidelman displaying The Clark Kent Effect when she can't change into costume.

Daibhid C: I've pulled

  • Subverted in Black Adder II when Edmund falls for Kate despite her being disguised as a boy, and worries about it.
I think I added that, and at the time either we didn't have Sweet on Polly Oliver, or I'd missed it. (And I'd also missed Not A Subversion, apparently...)

The Evil Dr Bolty: Another suggested page image, just because it's probably the most extreme example I have ever seen: Emporio Ivancov of One Piece.
