The game itself is overall very well-made. The 8-bit retro styling allows the player to fill in the blanks (no pun intended), and works with the material better than higher-resolution graphics would. I constantly found myself looking at the decayed Nightmares and picturing how horrific they might look close-up. Sound and music was deliciously retro as well.
The control scheme is solid and simple, although I got caught on more invisible corners than I would have liked. This was especially annoying in the Nightmare!Sunny Town as it made avoiding death somewhat difficult when a clear path actually wasn't or vice-versa. My other major complaint was the unskippable scrolling cutscene that must be replayed every time you die by Nightmare!Scarlet. Omitting that on subsequent attempts would have lessened my frustration considerably.
I'm going to have to get my wife to play this, I think she'll love it.
VideoGame Excellent "coffee break" game with some minor flaws
Minor Spoilers.
