The Best of all the Games
While the Professor Layton games have always been top-notch in terms of mysteries, puzzles, and story-telling, this one takes the cake. While the steampunk elements continue to remain less than realistic, by this point in the series you've either bought in to them, or given up completely. The story is absolutely amazing, making you believe that it's a giant adventure with a breath-taking scope, and then pulling the rug out from under you to reveal a deep and moving character piece. The puzzles continue to excel, with new puzzle battles and an upgraded memo pad as welcome additions to the gameplay. They also feel genuinely different from before, and even the 'sequel puzzles' never feel like rehashes. And the ending? One of the most paradoxically sad yet hopeful you'll ever encounter. I'd say more, but I don't want to give anything away, because it's really something you have to experience for yourself. If you're a fan of puzzles, mysteries, or just a game with a good story, this is definitely one you shouldn't miss. It's one of those rare games that is absolutely perfect.
