I've known this series for a long time and played it many times before. Evidently, I very much love it and I always will, if you couldn't tell from my major contributions to the pages for it here.
Let's go over some things, shall we?
The story is simple but effective. You're immediately locked in after opening the first game to your playable character getting harassed for virtually no reason other than being a wolf in a town for rabbits. And it gets better from there. I love the progression of the Romance Arc between Treat, Mochi and Moxie, which is quite a feat because normally my preferred ships tend to be hetero. I also love the Character Arc for all four protagonists and how they overcome their issues, it's not all happy endings and handed to them on a silver plate. No, it's realistic and relatable.
The characters are all lovable and charming from main to secondary, and they're also all surprisingly complex (In Juju's case, the latter moreso than the former). If I had to choose one as my favorite, it would be Mochi. She's very adorable and funny and tragic in a Wide-Eyed Idealist way. Treat is the most relatable to me, though. As for side characters, it's probably Annie. I'm not sure why, I just think she's amazing and adorable as well.
I will be the first to admit, I think that the series is pretty Anvilicious (and I was the one who added that to the YMMV page) but I think it works in the games' favor. I was never annoyed nor did I roll my eyes at the morals given to the audience, because the whole work is charming to begin with.
As the title of this review suggests, Lonely Wolf Treat was and could be the only time I like a game made in RPG Maker that's not horror so I give you props, Nami, for making this. In closing, I urge you to give it a try if you haven't. It's worth it.
