Reviews: Yuria 100 Shiki

Boring, Lifeless, Repetitive: A True Love Doll Story

(Note: At the time of this review, there are 62 chapters)

Sex is generally considered to be a nice thing. It's enjoyable, it's healthy, and it's useful to humans as a species. When someone turns down or has objections to a proposition to boink, it's a safe bet that they have a reason behind it.

Enter Yuria 100 Shiki, a manga which takes this and throws it out the window. Again. And again. And again. And again.

The basic premise of the manga is that Yuria is an escaped sex doll. A busty, curvy, beautiful sex doll with a MOE face. Because she's a sex doll, she can't live a normal life and so she rooms with a man named Shunsuke...who is engaged to a frequently-out-of-town girlfriend named Maria. Because Yuria has nowhere to go, Shunsuke agrees to let her board with him—except that Yuria can't keep her pants off for five minutes, and so the downfall of this manga begins.

The biggest problem of Yuria 100 Shiki is its superficiality—after you describe the concept to someone, they might as well put it down because that's the entire sum of the series. New characters are introduced and occasionally a chapter gives pretense as to a plot, but in the end it's chapter after chapter of "Quest for Ponos + Vagoo". Even after warning after mishap after trouble after even a near-death experience via blood loss, almost every single chapter is about Yuria trying her hand at a simple task and failing miserably because she can't stop thinking about Shunsuke's dong.

On a story front, it fails because there is no story beyond horny girls. On a hentai front, it fails because there's no actual hentai beyond exposed breasts. On a character front, it fails because with the exception of the UNGODLY-patient Maria there is not a single likeable or relateable character. On a comedy front, it fails because the only joke is "thinking about sex in an entirely unrelated situation".

What is there left, then? Absolutely nothing. The writing is readable and the art is competent, but you'll find nothing unique in either. If you try to look for any depth, any story, anything whatsoever beyond Yuria's raging libido, you will go away empty-handed.

Thank you, Yuria. Thank you for your insight. Pull out, gentlemen, and never look back.
