Wow. I really freaking loved Master of the Heavenly Yard. Even though I'm basing this review off of the infomines provided by Price Check Translations, I still want to say a few things I really loved - and disliked - about the book.
Pros:
- mothy brought back literally every character that I enjoyed seeing develop through the series until Ma appeared but I grew to love her just on this novel alone.
- The 16-minute song with the same name also has sections named after the chapters (or was it the other way around I don't remember but who cares).
- The four endings are each amazing in their own right. The Hellish one was evaded, since you can only have either Hellish or Heavenly, according to the book's epilogue. Heavenly was fanTAStic and really fitting. Graveyard was downright hilarious, while the Court ending was basically karma biting them in the butt.
Cons:
- The karma in the Court ending. Okay, Ma ceasing to exist was needed, but goddammit, mothy must really hate my favorites. Irina, Adam, Eve, and Gammon (well not really a favorite of mine but still) have to replay the whole Evillious timeline, while everyone gets to be reborn into Fourth Period and Banica and her servants do whatever they do in that alternate universe. It's just really freaking sad especially when Irina, as Master of the Court, was actually nice for once in her life, and Adam and Eve weren't even trying to cause trouble.
- The fact that it was Riliane that was possessed by Ma. Okay, I get it. She's been possessed for like half of her life. But mothy, just leave her alone for once. She was the ONLY SINNER WHO FREAKING REPENTED FOR HER WAYS. Can't we just not possess Riliane every novel?
- Well, even though it's a really fantastic ending, I just felt a bit underwhelmed at how rushed it was. Like, are we not gonna have a picture of what happens to everyone in Fourth Period? And what about the Court ending guys? Will they somehow remember everything at one point? And Banica? Are we gonna at LEAST have a book about her adventures? Please?
Overall, I give this book a 9/10, only taking one point off since, well, Court ending. It's a really great read, and if you can't read Japanese, then go over to Price Check Translations. They have infomined the book for you so that you can just read the infomines and still be informed about what happens.
Literature This is a really great ending to the whole franchise. Untagged spoilers.
