Reviews: Mortal Kombat
Nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be.
The title isn't glowing praise, I know, but still... I didn't go in expecting a cineastic masterpiece. And I didn't get one either. What I expected to get was a few good laughs at bad acting and fugly fight scenes. What I got was a surprisingly competent film. I think competent is the word to describe this film. It's solid. The acting is pretty good, if you remember which genre you're in. The script is okay, and adds a nice bit of character development to the few lines we knew about the characters from the video games. The fights look decent. For a low-budget videogame movie made in 1995, the special effects are brilliant. It hasn't aged particularly gracefully, but if you like martial arts films, there are worse ways to spend a saturday afternoon.
