While this author is best known for their numerous romantic comedy stories involving this pairing, The Forensics of Falling stands out among their work as an incredibly well-written, tight, and gripping case fic with a side of romance. It also has a sequel, another case fic called ''The Toxicology of Trust,'' published after the author's move to ArchiveOfOurOwn.
Relatively short and simple yet engagingly written and with an original plot harkening back to the formats of classic mystery novellas, "The Forensics of Falling" is easily one of if not the best stand-alone Case Closed Case Fics I've read. I would highly recommend it to fans of not only the Shinichi/Kaito pairing, but mystery novels in general and fans of the early classic Case Closed stand-alone cases in particular.
A warning before you jump in, so as not to be surprised: It is an AU.
