This story follows Nick and Judy as they try to solve a mystery relating to a visiting foreign monarch. The mystery plot itself is good, with plenty of twists and turns and some decent Rewatch Bonus, and there's a fair amount of interesting world-building going on, but its most noteworthy aspect is the character interaction.
Although it takes a platonic interpretation of Nick and Judy's relationship, it still manages to be just about the closest and most touchy-feely portrayal I've seen, which is saying something. Really puts the "life partners" in Platonic Life Partners; they even sleep together (in the literal sense as opposed to the euphemistic sense, bringing to mind those cute pet photos of dogs and cats sleeping snuggled up together). Expect lots of hugging and such as they help each other cope with the stressful situations they encounter. It's handled really well, though, for the most part managing to come across as genuinely heartwarming rather than over-the-top syrupy.
EDIT: After re-reading... well, maybe it is a little over-the-top syrupy. Though the author must have been doing something right, for me to get swept up in the exaggerated emotions and not notice anything odd until re-reading. Though it's not for everyone, it is certainly a unique take on the characters, which is worth something — even if it means that Nick and Judy come across as having grown so co-dependent after a year together, that now it doesn't seem like either of them could function for 5 minutes without each other's constant support :p
