The Pevensies were very, very good medieval monarchs. They were so successful, powerful, and appreciated that they could forge a powerful kingdom out of chaos and still be admired through cultural mythology centuries later. But the very same traits and skills that made them good kings and queens of Narnia make them look like homicidal sociopaths in WWII Britain. At times, they are downright frightening and because of that, this one is one of the darkest of post-Narnia fics and it couldn't be more different from canon, yet it works in wonderful ways. It's fantastic as a character fic and as entertaining dark!fic, but it's also got a take away message about what we admire and what we condemn, and how situation and context and perspective can so easily turn one into the other.
