Mina Aino: Witch in Training is the first story to be uploaded to Fanfiction.net by the user hersheyman. It is a crossover between the worlds of Sailor Moon and Harry Potter that focuses on Minako Aino, aka Sailor Venus, referred to as just Mina most of the time, and is the best crossover between these properties I have ever seen, with the possible exception of the sequel.
Minako and her cat Artemis are the only characters from Sailor Moon to appear, though many others make appearences in flashbacks or visions. While some fans may be put off by this, I find that it works very well. This is Minako's story, an origin story, no less, and just adding the other senshei in could easily detract from that, though it doesn't have too. I think this choice gives the story more focus and ultimately more credibility by limiting just how much the two worlds are forced to interact.
The story contains three plots, Minako's search for answers about the visions the dementors are causing her, the rivalry with Draco Malfoy, and the threat of Sirius Black. All of which are well interconnected. Events flow naturally, and conversations are in character.
All in all it is a well written story with the only problem being the occasional typo. Nothing too serious, and the first time through I didn't even notice because I was so engrossed. Reading it a second time though I did see them though.
Mina Aino: Witch in Training is highly recommended, as is its sequel, The Enemy in the Dark, and can be found at fanfiction.net.
