I would disagree with the below opinion. To emphasize Davis's loathing of Ranma early in the fanfic just because Davis is an OC is to neglect the other, canon characters who alternately hate each others guts and have to band together out of necessity. A strong theme in this story is the tension and emotional pain that comes from fighting Lovecraftian horrors, and one way that I think the author shows this quite well is the way the Children actively distrust each other.
That being said, Davis is rather Marty-Stuish. With the way that term has expanded over time, though, any character in any work could be considered one. I think Davis is written well in that he does not surpass any of the pilots in their own forte. The fact that he's sometimes a jerk just helps make his claims against Ranma more hypocritical, humanizing him.
