The first one has fantastic character and witty banter. The sequal (and third and fourth installment) do too, but they pull Chloe, Lana, and Lois severely out of character by making them doting servants of Voldemort. Its well explained why this is, but that doesn't explain why Chloe's passion for truth and secrets, Lana's unbearably naive kindness, or Lois's hatred of authority haven't caused one of the three to realize they're being lied to.
That said, the development the altered characters get is delightfully teenaged as opposed to the adult-more adult feeling that you get from a lot of authors.
FanficRecs Mostly worth reading for the snark
