I am not really into fanfics, so I hope this qualifies as one.
From the very beginning, when the curtain opens and the theme song from Paprika started playing, I was intrigued. To combine the two stories together (at least thematically) I knew this was going to be a messed up story. And then came the re-cast of the characters as circus acts. A few didn't fit too well ("the aerial act" for Sollux and "the knife throwing act" for Terezi) but as a preview/announcement it had me hooked! There were also auditions which seemed to legitimize the ordeal when most things fall flat after its concept.
Then "part 2." The kids. This show is getting on the road! We're making this happen. Onto the first episode!
SPOILERS - Really, it's not that long, watch it before continuing.
For the first couple of seconds I was wondering what the hell this was- but as soon as John delivered his first line I couldn't stop laughing even after it was over! With the subtlety of a brick freight-liner, the whole thing plays out as a sweet bro and hella jeff version of every fan-based work out there. The characters were boiled down to about one laconic line each, which sums up each of their stories as fast as it is precise.
On a more personal note, this Dave became my headcanon voice for him.
FanficRecs Everyone is the ringleader!
