I actually wanted to make a "Tear Jerker" page for this fic, but since I've forgotten how add subpages, I'll leave a review instead. This is probably more efficient anyways, since my entry on the tear jerker page would have basically been, "ALL OF IT!" Not only is the very premise of the story a tearjerker in itself, but thus far I haven't read a single chapter in which there wasn't SOMETHING that ripped my heart out and stomped all over it. Fair warning, if you haven't already guessed, this story runs on drama like a car runs on gasoline. If you are a fan of angst like I am, that's nothing but a positive. If you aren't, you should maybe be a bit more skeptical getting into it.
As someone else has mentioned, one thing that this fic does a very well is avoid the black and white morality so prevalent in fanfiction. At this point there have been no "Dracos in Leather Pants" or "Ron the death eaters" as far as I can tell. Rather, the author allows sympathetic characters to preform evil acts—with the text leaving little room to doubt that the action was evil—yet manages to keep the character sympathetic all the same.
I've only read to chapter 21 (of 52 total chapters)
but so far it has also done a very good job at keeping me invested. (I read all 21 of chapters in one evening). I count this as an accomplishment, because many fanfictions of similar length tend to start spinning their wheels around the midway point—something that hasn't happened so far in this particular story.
In spite of my usual archive panic with longer fanfics, I definitely intend to read more of this story, and I would encourage anyone who's curious to give it a shot.
