This fic was written before the Dad For One concept became trite and overused, but it honestly struggles to work in any real way.
The biggest strike against the fic is its characterization of Izuku. In-canon, he's a little neurotic, but also brave, friendly, and driven. Here, he's always one conversation away from a complete and utter emotional breakdown. The story swims through so much of his angst and misfortune that it's hard for it pick itself up afterward. And even when things seem to be looking up for him, it gets dunked right bank into angst a chapter or two later.
The author also makes numerous questionable decisions that go against the flow of the story. For instance, All For One kidnaps Eri and has her heal him back to prime condition. Not only would this make him unstoppable within the context of the plot, it makes little sense since even Eri struggles to turn off her Quirk or stop in any shape or form. In addition, there's no reason at all for him to even know about Eri, since Overhaul went out of his way to lay low until both AFO and All Might were out of the picture.
While some of the interactions are novel, like Shouto's interactions with Izuku when he draws a Commonality Connection between them, they're undercut by Izuku's own inability to sustain an interaction without breaking down into angst again.
The author tries their best to create something dark and mature, but it wallows in its own angst and comes up short in almost every way.
