Redo of Healer is a Dark Fantasy Revenge story about a young man named Keyaru, a Healer in a generic party of heroes who was constantly tortured and abused for no other reason than the fact that it amused his companions. Also, being a healer he has magical sex powers which is a pretty stock hentai plot point but I digress. Right out the gate, this show is very upfront about what it's all about. You're here because you want the revenge fantasy. It's about the rape, it's about the violence, and it's about you enjoying it because those motherfuckers deserve it. But does it work?
I say thee nay. Redo of Healer barely counts as a narrative really, it's more like a loosely connected series of scenes to move along to the next atrocity. The writer's sole desire was to create something so controversial that it would put butts in chairs to read the LN, not really to convey a world that makes coherent sense. Key loses all traces of sympathetic traits when he starts weaponizing rape to use on his foes, but you're obviously not supposed to feel sorry for his targets either. So it turns into this weird pseudo-harem situation where a guy and his slaves are trudging across the countryside having "wholesome" moments all the while. Even the edgiest of edgelords can't help but admit that the rather graphic sex scenes are the primary reason to watch Redo, and they can barely recall anything else of note happening onscreen.
I wouldn't recommend it, but I can sorta see the appeal. It's for people enjoy edgy content, simple as. (Mostly sex related edge, of course. The gore and violence is pretty tame.)
