I know this is a YMMV page, but I really don't see how Terramar's parents qualify for idiot status. They never told him it was okay for him to live in both places because it was obvious to them, and Terramar never gave any indication that he saw it as a problem. Even good parents aren't psychic. As for Terramar, he's a kid, he made an unfounded assumption, and didn't think talking to his parents would do any good (and might have even worried it would cause conflict). Everygriff behaved as could be expected for the people that they are. None of them were idiots.
