[[Facepalm My god.]] Do any of you realize what selflessness is? It wasn't odd that Anakin appeared a "fairly happy child" because he clearly wasn't, but was willing to put up with it to keep his mother happy.
Oh, and the part about him cutting his master's throat in the night? On top of being complete YMMV, I'd like to elaborate that I never saw Anakin (prior to being driven off the deep end later) as the kind to really snap.
Oh, and for the record, Watto actually wasn't that bad of a master. He apparently (as one troper noticed) let his slaves live in a rather comfortable house with a freakin' backyard.
