There are few 98 pound women alive that can beat even the average male Troper in hand to hand combat, and we\\\'re to believe that tiny thing can take out those feared creatures? Please. I get people here worship Firefly, but have some sense of perspective. It was laughable.

Someone THAT tiny could not block attacks from a man of even barely-average strenght, let alone one who is unhinged with insanity. And even IF she COULD do that, a psychic person still only has 4 limbs; she was against dozens. They should have ripped her apart. I loved the TV series of Firefly, but the movie ruined the whole Reavers concept. Plus, I still can\\\'t buy into River being that deadly in unarmed melee.
**** River was armed, as she took several blades from the Reavers. Also, she rarely blocked attacks, and never blocked them with her bare hands. The rest of the time she dodged or deflected attacks. But a 98-pound woman CAN block an attack from a full-grown man, through the magic of (real life) martial arts. This troper\\\'s karate instructor staged such a demonstration on the first day of class, as part of a lesson about grounding and stances.
***** I took martial arts as well and I know that a 98 lb woman\\\'s best defense would be the element of surprise. If the opponent knows what she\\\'s capable of, she may be able to block a few attacks while landing some of her own but one good punch or kick landed could turn tables fast, as in {{Rocky IV}} Drago vs Apollo fast. But still, even if a 98 lb woman could beat an average man, that doesn\\\'t mean she could beat a room full of well above average sized men.
