The most common Watsonian reason for this is for characters who heavily outlived their loved ones, be it significant others or their children. While the soul of the loved ones usually defaults to their last appearance before their deaths, the souls of the recently deceased revert to the age they were when they were last with their loved ones in life. In this case, it\'s a visual shorthand to show that the family is now TogetherInDeath.

From the TLP: \\\"This is an overly niche and narrow explanation for a very specific example, and it transitions into a Doylist justification despite starting as the opposite.

The most common Watsonian explanation is that a ghosts appearance is determined by how they see themselves, or how others remember them.\\\"

I\\\'m inclined to agree. Both claims that this is the \\\"most common\\\" and even that it \\\'\\\'is\\\'\\\' a Watsonian justification are... tenuous. Heck, the description earlier even specifically says there is almost never a Watsonian explanation. And with something this supernatural I don\\\'t think that \\\"Watsonian\\\" is even a useful term to use.
