Regarding entry \\\"Clown Car\\\", IIRC, in that episode it was an (exaggerated/rounded) total of 200 independent objects, including worker bees, repair pods, repurposed escape pods, etc, most of which have their own designated storage and launch points throughout the ship. Very few of the swarm hosted by Enterprise was actually shuttles themselves hosted out of the hangar bay. So yes, still a bit ridiculous, but not necessarily unrealistic.
