I kinda think the AmericaWinsTheWar trope just doesn't apply to this one. The movie is focused on a group of American soldiers, but they're not partaking in some secret behind enemy lines to win the war, they're there to rescue a single American soldier.

There's nothing about the war being won either way. It's not even really saying any particular skirmish was won by Americans. It's just focusing on an American unit.
