It seems that items in my page watchlist get a red dot if I've visited the page after the last edit. It would be better of it were the other way round, so a red dot indicates new edits and alerted me to go look at the page.
Also, would it be possible to have just looking at the page history trigger the "has seen the changes" status? I often just check out new edits on the history page - for small changes, this is usually enough.was:
