As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
workingAlert When Related Pages Grow
Sort of like the Follow button that lets you know when a page gets edited, but telling you when a page gets crosswicked further.
Hitting Follow on the Related page itself doesn't work like a regular page, unfortunately, and refreshing the page sets the button back to Follow rather than Following.
workingWelcome message to new accounts
I think it'd be helpful if all new accounts got an automated message from a mod, maybe even a randomly chosen one for each message (idk, that's how it worked on a wiki I used to contribute to), linking them to the various administrivia pages worth reading. This way, new accounts may be less likely to make mistakes, as they often to. It might save everyone a little headache, and if people are still making mistakes, they can't claim to not have been presented with the rules in advance.
workingMake it impossible to add a hat to your own draft on TLP.
I see a lot of people complaining about people hatting their own drafts, and it stands to reason because the creator of the draft is most likely to be biased, especially if they're a new user.
workingRetract bombs and hats
There should be a way to remove your hat or bomb on a draft w/out switching to the other vote. There are plenty of times when a draft no longer deserves bombs, but also doesn't deserve a hat.
workingFollowing a "Related" page
It could be useful to be able to add "Related" pages to your Follow list, which would notify you whenever a new link to the page is added anywhere on the wiki.
This would make it easy to keep track of when a trope is used, to check for misuse as soon as it is added, in case someone forgets to crosswick.
workingFormatting Tab for Edits
EWISOTT
It's less of a hassle when you either edit on your phone, or when you forget the more complex formatting, or both.
workingTLP bomb reasons
It would be nice if, when you threw a bomb at someone's TLP, you had to write why the bomb was thrown. Then, you could know whether your TLP was Not A Trope or needs some rewriting or if it was right to throw a bomb in the first place.
workingA Tour Guide for New Tropers
As I observe a lot of new tropers getting a lot mistakes and sometimes getting suspended for that (such as grammar issues, or format issues, or using the wrong namespace; there's even one troper getting suspended for rogue launching) I think a welcome tour, or a guide, be helpful for new, especially beginner, tropers before they touch anything.
I know this has been asked before, multiple times for years. I can't believe there still is no option to search by username or view all your own posts in You Know That Show. It can be so easy to lose track of them. Especially when sometimes someone does go through and answer an unbumped one from possibly years ago, but not always.
