Just watched the OVA (I'm slow, I know). Most hilariously crazy episode yet...too many hilarious moments to list.

The Another Epilogue bit was interesting though. Just wondering, does anyone know what the name of the song that plays in the middle of the short (when Otonashi recounts how Iwasawa, Yui and Yuri moved on) is? It's always used for the most epic moments of the series, and it's awesome. (Well, except for the bit where everyone's throwing themselves onto the clone Tenshi's blades; but this series has always liked to screw around with its soundtrack.)

The extra episode single handedly made Shiina one of my favourite characters.

Ah, nice. Thanks!

(Still, that's the theme of the SSS? I never really associated that BGM with them specifically.)

Does anyone suppose that if the VN ever comes out, it will deal with all the SSS member's backstories? Frankly, would it be even possible?

Why would it be impossible?

[up] I'm only an aspiring writer, but trust me, coming up with original character backstories is HARD.

How about this, there were about two dozen characters and do you know how many characters got completely proper send up with complete backstory?

Two. Although Naoi and Yuri's cases are very arguable.

Eh, it's easier than making the story itself to me.

Well unless the individual backstories are longer than the main story, but that's rare.

The guy who wrote this anime was the same person who did CLANNAD, Kanon and AIR, so...

I'd actually say we got all the backstory we needed for six, maybe seven, characters. I'm not sure where you got the number two from.

Backstory for the others would vary in difficulty, though. Shiina could be done relatively easily, but TK would be almost impossible to do well.

I think that even if we got a mediocre backstory for TK giving us more information as to why the hell he's there would be satisfying.

I kind of think the opposite; if he were even the least bit comprehensible, he'd lose some of what makes him so enjoyable, unless it was done really well.

Well i'm the sort of person who prefers to know as much about a character I like as possible so...

(well, canon information, anyway)

[up][up] Well, true, we got the backstory for that many, but proper send up? Not really. Kanade also got a satisfactory send up, but not complete backstory.

Btw, what happened to Otonashi? Is he stuck there forever?

I believe that in the alternative epilogue Otonashi won't be satisfied until Kanade either comes back or until he's somehow satisfied another way.

[up], [up][up]

So...guess he's stuck there, like, forever?

You know, I have a feeling that he's going to be something big in next (I think) season, as either something like a God or the Big Bad. I mean, I think I would snap.

I doubt a next season. It would be stupid. A reboot with proper pacing and episode count is better. Done by Kyo Ani.

[up] I like the sound of that, even though that's equally as unlikely. They tend to be picky in their adaptations and frankly, seeing how their adaptations of Key Visual Arts works wasn't nearly as successful/popular/lucrative as their other adaptations, I don't think they would do it.

I'd be more than happy if it happened, of course.

The Key adaptations are my favourite parts of Kyo Ani's work, though I guess it doesn't seem to be the majority opinion?

But well, people have pointed out that this Otonashi seems suspiciously like the programmer who created the Angel Player program and all the shadow monsters. Given that this series has already implied the afterlife follows a non-standard timeline; maybe this alternate-universe Otonashi IS the Angel Player programmer.

[up] Don't get me wrong, I will take Key works over any other works created by Kyo Ani. It's just that judging by the DVD sales and such, the former are not that popular.

...have you looked at the sales figures? While they certainly aren't K-On levels of ridiculousness, Air, Kanon 2k6 and Clannad all sold very, very well.

Anyway, PA Works did a great job on Angel Beats, so I see no reason to pull them off the show, if there was to be more animated.

[up] You may be right, seeing my info is pretty outdated (I think the last time I checked it was the figures from 2008 or something).

Really though, don't take my information seriously; I can't really figure out a televised series' income, anyways. I mean, for movies and books, there are always gross revenue and sales respectively, but...you get the idea.

I want Light Novel adaptation (an Adaptation Expansion, preferrably) too. Come to think of it, there never have been a full light novel adaptation of any Key series, are there? Tell me if there is and where I can get it Jun Maeda can shut the hell up and take my money, dammit!

I thought that the last ED and the epilogue implied he eventually gets out of there.
