Somewhat neat how Kasen, first drawn by Azuma, has her first game appearance drawn by Harukawa. Meanwhile, Sumireko, first drawn by Harukawa, has her first manga appearance drawn by Azuma.
Berusuke 4-Komas
In the first one, Reisen does raise an interesting question.
And on a somewhat related note, I find myself wondering if any of the would-be advertisers are feeling cheated by Aya's decision to not to publish Alternative Facts. It's probably for the best that she had a change of heart, but I can imagine her getting some complaints.
The Living Guildpact rules that coffee is an acceptable substitution for rest as specified in subsection … whatever.By advertiser, you mean Kosuzu? She's not even aware that Aya was releasing a book.
The tengu journalists seem to work individually, so I don't think there are any other advertisers.
I think @Lightblade is refering to stuff like Doremy's pillows.
"This has truly, truly, been a roundabout path."Thank you"...That's all I can think to say..."There are a lot of ads in Alternative Facts. Marisa, Rinnosuke, the SDM, etc.
So apparently it's already Clownpiece day on my end.
Time zones!
Murdering time and space. Now on Twitter. If she didn't publish, I wonder if she had to pay back the people who advertised.
Just had the possibly humorous thought of Aya making up for all those windows she busts by promising free advertising.
And then deciding not to publish.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAh, those ads. I do wonder where Aya got them from. She doesn't exactly have the best reputation.
Yearly reminder that Clownpiece is Greek, not American.
BEING MURICAN HAS NAUGHT TO DO WITH NATIONALITY BUT HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE AMOUNT OF RED AND WHITE AND BLUE AND STARS AND STRIPES YOU CAN FIT ON YOUR BODY AT THE SAME TIME

Clownpiece wears 'murican clothing
Therefore Clownpiece is awesome.
"We are just like Irregular Data. And that applies to you too, Ri CO. And as for you, Player... your job is to correct Irregular Data."Wow...
I was like "Clownpiece day? What day is that? July 4th... What's the connection? Is it a pun, or-... oh. Right. America."
It sure seems that way to me. In Touhou, youkai typically look feminine with few exceptions, the whole designing of the spellcard rules brings specific attention to that association, and
It's a bit odd to ask the mystery to portray themselves mysteriously though, right? Wouldn't an outsider provide a portrayal that better emphasized that mystery?
On the other hand, getting an insiders perspective shows that even people 'in the know' are hardly omniscient. It also allows a more thorough portrayal of the mysteries in question. Kind of showing the mystery sphere from more than one angle; we can better see what's so mysterious about the mystery.
Annnnd mystery has stopped seeming like a word, so I should probably stop.
I did have something else I was considering saying, but I'm not sure if it would have been incendiary, so I'm playing it safe until I think it over a bit more and perhaps discuss it with a few people.
Also, happy Clownpiece day! It's the day we get to play "Was that a gunshot or a firework?" Opinions vary on which is considered the 'safe' bet. I can't help but wonder just how dangerous fireworks are. I imagine they're the cause of fewer injuries/deaths than firearms, but maybe that isn't true for today specifically.
Enjoy responsibly whichever celebration you choose to enjoy, if any at all.
I write some fanfiction. Satori's Tale is done... but I'm not.Alternatively, maybe the idea isn't to present them as mysterious. Women drawing women tend to treat them more as subjects than objects, and I'd argue that "a mystery" is a kind of object. It's not like it denies the subjectivity of the character being drawn so much as denies their subjectivity to us, right?
I just figured that ZUN picked those artists because he liked their art. The fact that the artists were also female just happened to be a happy coincidence.
Probably not as a whole, but certainly there's a lot of mystery in how and why the characters act. Yukari is notoriously inscrutable, but the Tengu, Kasen, and Mamizou are as well. So while it may not be a theme that 'women are mysterious', I think it's safe to say that 'Touhou Characters have a great deal of mystery to them' is fairly accurate.
Other mysteries include Marisa's falling out with her father. Rinnosuke's and Reimu's parents (and the Hakurei Bloodline in general), Yuyuko's past relationship with Yukari, The cause for the Konpaku family's condition, and Sakuya's connection to Eirin (My new headcanon on that is that Sakuya just found Eientei during one of her timestops and Eirin had words to say). I could go on, but I think my point's gotten across: There are a lot of unanswered questions... and many of them will likely remain forever unanswered.
Then of course there's the idea that the very reason for Gensokyo's existence as something apart from the outside world is a mystery to most of the people within.
As many mysteries are solved (To the audience at least), many more remain, and I think that's kinda the point. I doubt all of them are intentional mysteries so much as "ZUN simply hasn't cared about it for a decade or so so it hasn't come up again since first mention." But they remain mysteries to us, which is the important part.
(Also, Yeah, I figure he probably just chose those artists because he saw their work and was like "I can/do envison my characters as looking like something in this style. Time to ring them up and see if they're willing!")
I write some fanfiction. Satori's Tale is done... but I'm not.WHAT ARE YOUKAI DOING IN MY SWAMP?!
but why tho
