The SSIB story will be a comedy of errors (SSIB is already a comedy of errors, but this one would involve more comedic action-adventure), culminating in an air chase over Lunar Capital that lit its sky with the fireworks of danmaku. In the end, the characters return to Gensokyo, and discovered that they have unintentionally released Chang'e from her prison. They had a great feast, and Chang'e went on to live in Gensokyo, the end.
As you can see, I have a major case of What Happened to the Mouse? with SSIB. Well, as some has suggested, incarcerated (main, female) characters in Touhou always get released.

@atrican: I don't think you need an entire game to be an introduction to Gensokyo though. You can just have a prologue or something. Just a short kerfuffle a la Forbidden Scrollery where Reimu has to stop some low-level youkai from stealing all the toilet paper or whatever. Frankly I think using either of those incidents as an introduction is actually kind of weird and misleading. For example, the stuff about the underground youkai may be a fundamental aspect of the setting but it's also something that Reimu and Marisa lived their entire lives without thinking about, apparently.

As for my preferred storyline, I think Miko would make a great final boss for various reasons. First, she just has the right sort of personality, second every single other boss you fought earlier has a reason to hate her and therefore join you, third she highlights the themes of Gensokyo by contrasting the difference between the pretend-youkai-conflict that characterizes Gensokyo at rest and the real conflict from ages past (forcing a bit of soul-searching/honesty from our protagonists, at least momentarily), and lastly she can easily change her mind on a dime and sit down for tea at the end.

Part of the reasoning behind this is: the MOF-HM event chain isn't so important it absolutely has to be maintained for such a crossover story, while one of MOF's central tropes, "a new shrine appeared in Gensokyo", actually needs a status quo of "there is only one shrine and one miko" to build upon.

At the creation of Gensou Shoujo Taisen 1, there is no Hopeless Masquerade. It is just Touhou 6 - 12. Hisoutensoku or Great Fairy Wars being the newest game.

They did a good job, so I am unsure if changing the way they introduce it would be better or worse.

Everything is relative.

For no paricular reason it ocurred to me that Rumia may suffer from the same problem as Wriggle: Humans no longer fear what she represents

This has been part of my headcanon so long that I nearly forgot it's not actual canon. EX Rumia in my mind is Rumia from before electric lights became widespread. Rumia is the incarnation of humanity's fear of darkness.

Which, nowadays, embodies "It's dark? That's mildly annoying. Flashlight/cell phone/light-up-watch to the rescue."

Maybe she actually is a grue, but is listed as 'youkai' because no one in Gensoukyou recognizes them?

Nobody recognizes them... since nobody sees them. So... yeah, makes sense to me.

As for my preferred storyline, I think Miko would make a great final boss for various reasons.

Well, I'm sold. But then, I'm an easy sell, so yeah.

Just a short kerfuffle a la Forbidden Scrollery where Reimu has to stop some low-level youkai from stealing all the toilet paper or whatever.

Only to be revealed they were only doing it to make the filth-licking youkai's job harder so they'd be late to a party because the toilet-paper culprit didn't have enough Sake to host everyone properly.

I write some fanfiction. Satori's Tale is done... but I'm not.

I haven't posted it here: Ichijinsha has a 128-page artbook for TOKIAME named "Hourai". This will be his first proper artbook, collecting his Touhou illustrations plus some additional commercial and personal works. The book costs 2700 Yen (tax included). Japanese Amazon

Huh, because I haven't said it, in the recent months, my attitude on the PC-98 era has turned around. The PC-98 games have a warm heart that means well, which is unfortunately a rare thing in video games, and I'd argue, something that's somewhat lacking in the Windows canon.

HRTP and SOEW are very much beginner's exercises. LLS & MS have excuse plot with no proper denouement, and their characters are mostly fillers, compared to SOEW which actually tried to tell a story; they are all about ZUN improving his craft in STG making. Strangely, this leaves PODD as the most accomplished game from the PC-98 era.

Quite frankly I think a warm heart that means well is overrated. Windows canon has more of a cynical heart that's nonetheless optimistic, and I find that much more valuable. If this series was too warm and fuzzy I'd probably have gotten bored of it long ago. I like the fact that ZUN has something to say about our world, through his own weird lens.

Speaking of other things I would like to see (because I am daring), I would like if in the future there would a character who can generate gunpowder (mainly for fireworks because danmaku is practically a fireworks festival anyway) and one base on gemstones. And Christian, but that happening would as slim as having a proper male character in the games. There are more (like aUshi Oni who has an identity crisis and Gashadokuro who is a large woman with skeleton-themed clothing), but those would be bit specific.

[up]x3 Though I wouldn't mind some sort of synthesis (in the Hegelian sense), is my point.

EDIT: According to wikipedia, Aufhebung, the word Hegel himself would use is translated in English as "sublation". Oh my.

I am pretty sure he has included "pick again" cold openings to posts before, in Purplequest at least.

Of course, now that I've said it, he might do it anyway because I said he wouldn't.

Well, LARP outfits would be an invitation to introduce another screwy subsystem into the game, so he might go for it. He has done the "nope, forget it" open before, but I'm not sure he's ever done it for an option he himself offered us.

It's already in the game, but you need advanced FASHIONTECH to use it.
