Oh hey, look, Futo is a sneaky taoist. So... yeah, everyone of them (well, bar Yoshika, I guess.) has betrayed in their past. Seiga's got a helluva list, Futo betrayed Tojiko, Tojiko betrayed her clan, Miko betrayed her people... boy, they just love this stuff. But not eachother. The betrayals, and all.

So the Myouren temple gang is 'united' by transformation/change, and the taoists are 'united' by betrayal. Yeah, little wonder they aren't really a "faction", per se.

Meanwhile, Tojiko's thinking like Yuyuko: bein' dead ain't so bad.

Minoriko is higher risk because if you cheese her off, harvests get screwed, which bones not only your idiot head, but the rest of the village too. If you upset Shizuha then... I guess maybe a few trees near your home will be damaged from heavy snow falling on still present leaves? You might have to rake a bit more?

Tojiko's a vengeful spirit, but she's far too forgiving.

She's unable to bear a grudge against Futo because she's found advantages to being dead.

Plus, already dead loyalty to Miko.

Yeah, I figured they all put aside their differences a long time ago.

Now, I must find a Miko x Byakuren doujin.

Yeah, if the leaves don't fall, there are a few complications. First and most poignant is an enormous loss of water through the stomata of the leaves despite producing no food via photosynthesis (due to the reduced daylight), as stomata "leak" a bit, even when fully closed.

Another would be the weight of snow piling on the extra surface area of the leaves. If you aren't familiar with the stuff, snow gets very heavy very quick. It could cause some branches to snap. Not real bad, but it could weaken the tree in the future.

So yeah, Shizuha could kill some deciduous trees, and Minoriko could starve the population. Minoriko is a bigger threat.

Hunting... Uh. Wait, you mean hunting youkai and eating them?

You know, I hadn't even considered that until you brought up Byakuren. I realize you were just talking about the meat prohibition, but youkai hunting taken more literally... I dunno. Talk about breaking all sorts of rules.

As for hunting actual animals, winter is not a particularly good time to go hunting for most animals (though obviously there are exceptions. You find out the harvest failed, and there's not much to do other than ration.

Also, I think Tojiko would be cool with talking about it. She's forgiven Futo, and seems alright with things now. It also wasn't mentioned at all in Futo's entry, so...

I wasn't even considering the killing of Youkai. That defeats the purpose of Gensokyo.

Some Youkai might even be willing to help out. They eat animals too.

Kawashiro Nitori

Ability: Manipulation of Water
Threat: High
Friendship: Medium
Place of Activity: Genbu Marsh, etc

One of the kappa living in Genbu Marsh. There are unusually many kappa, so they've created their own society. This is about kappa in general, but they're unusually skilled with their hands and excel at making tools.*

She has engineering skills at a level that humans cannot even understand. However, she doesn't offer her skills to any but a small group of youkai. She is somewhat bad at producing magical items.

Because of her timidness, if she is alone she will run away when approached by humans or youkai. Among other kappa she seems to be bright and fun-loving, but when alone after failing to run away, she adopts an arrogant attitude. Deep in her heart she seems to look down on humans and other youkai, and she's terrible at hiding it.

Power

Controlling water is, along with tool use, another power shared by all kappa. I can only guess what the full extent of the control is, but she can do things like create fountains, shoot water, and other tricks with water.

I haven't encountered kappa very often, but it's dangerous because their hideout is so nearby. This is because they can use their control over water to drown people.

Yeah, I didn't think you were. It just kinda struck me when I read "Byakuren would object."

Incidentally... If trolls (super-regeneraters) existed... and fed off human fear, then the running gag among my friends would be the best emergency rations.

Troll in a can. The twist here is that to keep it fed on fear, only 90% the cans are properly cooked and prepared to eat. The other half tear you apart from inside after you eat them. Also trims the population to further ease starvation problems!
