The whole point of Shizuru and Haruka meeting Satsuki is Satsuki sort of embodies the best traits of both (Shizuru's people charisma and Haruka's skill with handling masses with an iron fist) but taken to their respective worst extremes. She's sort of this amalgam of both who works as their mutual horror funhouse mirror.

Given Satsuki's regime is fascist enough, and the series itself doesn't shy away from pointing at it through imagery and motifs, your analogy is actually fitting too.

She's more Yakuza boss than Hitler though. Her preference seems to be dynamic, darwinian anarchy to root out the weak, with the weak being regimented non-entities. There's no personal favoritism there (and her favorites are so because of their talents, not despite them), and really no corruption.

Yeah, that's why Satsuki, unlike Hitler, is ultimately redeemable and Nazis aren't.

Shizuru is not *that* bad because she really doesn't want to abuse her power, just having it and enjoying the recognition it brings is enough for her.

It's not so much, I think, she wants to be famous as she *doesn't know* how not to be famous. All signs seem to point to her being a well respected Ojou her whole life, but she doesn't seem to have social prejudices (she's in love with Natsuki, an orphan who skips on classes, to go around beating info out of punks on bars while riding her bike). Overall she's not that different from Konoka, except because Konoka has not been in positions where she exerts real power over others. Despite her being the headmaster's granddaughter, it's not like Mahora treats her as their princess, in the larger scheme she's seen as just another student by the masses. I doubt the average student can tell who's Konoka, while everyone at Fuka Academy (canon)/Mahora (URAE) knows who the Council President is.

I suddenly have this sudden image of Haruna getting lots of commissions for Shizuru/Haruka doujins.

As I said, Haruka is not really popular with the student body.

I can see a high in-universe demand for doujin between Shizuru and Tenjouin Saki, being that Saki is the most popular girl in the school until Lala makes herself known (probably with Ayaka as a close second if Negima Neo is any indication).

Haruka's skill with handling masses with an iron fist

Do you mean her self perseived skill? Because I can't remember her being that good at keeping the students in line in Mai Hime, though its been a while, most just their eyes at her and try to avoid her IIRC.

But if it self peceived, then I can believe Haruka being deluded enough to see herself as authoritative as Satsuki.

NapoleonDeCheese Since: Oct, 2010
#88610: Oct 26th 2016 at 8:21:11 AM

It's more evident in the manga, which empowers her a fair bit more, especially since Reito isn't there just like in this universe, but even in the anime, she's the one leading the actual in-field leading presence during the search for the 'vampire' and the one holding things down until the evacuation while the Hime Festival goes sour and Shizuru goes off to pursue her Natsuki obsession.

And of course she isn't as authoritative as Satsuki, but that's because Satsuki is a freak of nature. Even in this universe she was shown running most of the student body in Mahora while in kindergarten (the Bible Black Origins story is canon as for this universe). Had she stayed at Mahora, Konoemon would have blocked her furher from that, which is why Ragyo had her moved to Honnouji. But without him around, she'd just have made Mahora her own domain instead.

Ironically, I see the other Satsuki as the only student in Mahora Satsuki would actually take pause to respect, even above Evangeline. Satsuki would recognize Eva's power, but would most likely think very lowly of her as a person, claiming she's wasted nearly limitless potential and power doing basically nothing over centuries.

She's devastatingly super powerful and has a private squadron of almost as super powerful devoted merciless warriors at her beck and call, what's not to respect?

Magic is what you want it to be.

"So this is Ohtori...!" a nearly breathless Kagurazaka Asuna, wearing a fairly pretty (even if borrowed) dress for once, contemplated in awe as she, Konoe Konoka and Sakurazaki Setsuna through the fragant, wide gates of the prestigious academy of glamour and sophistication. Their limousine's chaffeur smiled at the three young beauties and then pleasantly drove away, happily humming to himself down the highway bathed by radiant sunlight, under the crystal clear blue sky.

Soft, soothing European classic music sounded across the campus from the very entrance, which was flanked by long rows of bushes in full flowery bloom, and in the distance, huge buildings of exquisite Western architecture could be seen, populated by all sorts of girls in dangerously short light green skirts and white fuku blouses, plus generally handsome boys in long sleeved fully light green uniforms. Ohtori actually was the second smallest of the Four Schools, but that didn't mean it wasn't gigantic in its own right, and while it was nowhere as exhuberant and full of life as Mahora, it had far more of an aura of traditional class to it. You certainly wouldn't see students rambunctiously flooding out of train cars at this time, but they would orderly march into their respective buildings, arranged into neatly organized lines, while gently chattering about the business of the day.

It was the sort of life Asuna certainly didn't want to lead in a permanent basis, but the kind she would love to play pretend it for a day every now and then.

"It's certainly more impressive than I thought, almost I guess it lacks... something I can't put my finger onto," Konoka, wearing an even prettier dress of silky texture and delightful light blue frills, agreed while walking hand to hand with the utterly mortified Setsuna. "Still, better to be here than with the VP, either way. I feel kinda bad for her..."

"She'll be okay, Ojou-sama," Setsuna, who much to her discomfort was wearing the prettiest dress of all three by far, her hair arranged in a way that made her look absolutely glamorous but not practical at all, stiffled her voice as if she was being forced to chew on nails. Although she could walk on the high heels she was wearing, that still didn't mean she had to like it at all. "She's... strong."

A young woman one year or year and a half older than them, wearing a formal business suit with modest skirt and black tie, walked out to greet them, with a flawless bow and a stoic, educated tone. She had thick glasses with an even thicker black frame, and her thick, long, black hair was bunched into a single braid running down the full extent of her back. The design of her suit was clearly intended to hide as much of her figure as possible, but Konoka's clinic eye could tell she was very well shaped indeed.

"Konoe Konoka-sama, Kagurazaka Asuna-sama, Sakurazaki Setsuna-sama," she said. "Welcome to our humble Academy. I am Kajou Ayame, Secretary for the Ohtori Student Council, here to take you to Kiryuu Touga-sama."

"Asuna-sama," Asuna blinked. She considered the sound of that, then decided she didn't like it. "Hm, that's so nice of you, Sempai, but just call me Asuna-sa, will you? I think I'd like that better..."

The older girl looked at her with something that was too polite and restrained to be called stupified before kindly nodding at her. "As you wish, Asuna-san. Please come with me," she invited, gracefully spinning back on her heels and leading the way down a long road framed by tall trees charged with exotic, aromatic red flowers.

Konoka looked up at them, then pulled a tiny booklet out of her Victoria's Secret compartiment, checking on one of its pages. "Ohh, I knew they looked familiar. See, Setchan? They come from the same country as Kimura Kaere-sempai..."

"O-Ojou-sama, please, try to behave more accordingly to the place's customs," her bodyguard stiffly whispered out a corner of her mouth. "That goes double for you, Asuna-san!" she urgently hissed, seeing Asuna had taken to behold all the sights with both arms folded behind her neck.

"What am I doing?" Asuna asked innocently, blinking a lot at Setsuna.

Setsuna hissed, then reached over to grab her right arm and pull it back down. "That's not the way a proper lady in a diplomatic mission should behave!"

She caught on Ayame-san briefly looking back at them past her shoulder, and the Shinmeiryuu practitioner gulped. "Our deepest apologies. Asuna-san has been experiencing neck inconveniences of late."

"I have?" Asuna wondered aloud.

"Yes, you have, it's just your traditional, proper upbringing means you don't like to burden others with your problems..." Setsuna drawled the words, fixing a sharp side glance on her.

"Well, that's right, but still, if something's bothering me, generally I'll share it," Asuna matter of factly said, although in the practice she wasn't like that at all. Push came to shove, she'd even have hidden a demon coming to claim her soul, or her having to be sealed for a century, as long as it meant she wouldn't disturb others. "Who do you think I am? Negi?"

While Setsuna just made a face of complete and anguished disgrace and Konoka giggled softly, Ayame allowed herself an amused smile, as long as they weren't looking at her face.

Who knew? Maybe these ones had potential.

You know what I mean.

Why are they visiting all these schools?

NapoleonDeCheese Since: Oct, 2010

The Mahorafest is coming, and people from all Four Schools are coming. Since balance between them is delicate at best, representatives are sent to extend formal invitations to the leaders of the other academies and organize the arrangements. Teachers deal with teachers, but the students deal with each other, Because Japanese Fiction.

Honnouji is the most problematic school to deal with, so the Student Council President and Vice President of Mahora are required there. Ohtori needs someone with lesser official rank but still a lot of traditional heritage pull since Ohtori works on aristocracy rules, hence Konoka. CLAMP Gakuen is the most 'mundane', the (relatively) smallest one and the most easygoing and agreeable in their dealings with Mahora, so they get someone less important as the ambassador.

There's also unofficial Fifth School most humans, even Ala Alba members and the like, aren't supposed to know about. These get an extra special secret representative. Think about it, then think about the Negima cast, and then you should guess who's sent there.

Before anyone asks, Furinkan and Tomobiki are in another part of the country and really aren't part of the arrangements. They are sort of has-been schools by this point anyway. Pretty much any other familiar school in manganime has been assimilated by the others in this setting, meta-wise or in-universe-wise, except for Ashford, which here is placed on England instead.

So, episode 3 of DXD. Fred, dear, there's only one Paladin Alexander Anderson, accept no imitations, and you really aren't him.

The fault can be put squarely on Konoka's shoulders.

Not only because she wanted Asuna to come along, but because, if Negi can't go, and Negi's still got a full class to look after and Festival preparations to help with, then she's going to need extra protection just in case, and Asuna's the one with magic canceling.

Hoi, I miss being able to post when I want.

Two on-topic questions. First, Lancer, do you have your "Ornstein at Mahora" snippets and chapters collected somewhere in a single place? I did make a bookmark on the page sometime after you just started posting them, but I might have missed a couple of the earliest ones.

Second, Hyperblade. I've re-read Wait, Did That Happen Before recently, and I have an urge to ask. The Green Ranger, would it be a spoiler to reveal his identity? Because I strongly suspect it actually is Neji.

And now, slightly less on-topic. Unit-kun, the Anything Goes Gundam Fight you've linked to once made me want to see what is that Gundam G all about. Also, your quests on QQ are just as good as the ones on SV.

And, to anybody else, have you guys seen Crest of the Stars? This recent mention of (Kiryuin) Satsuki made me remember the splendid character that is Duchess Spoor. Ah, the nostalgic memories of The First Anime Waifu...

Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.

I'm pretty sure I already posted this interlude once, but I never got around to publish it in the fic proper. Since I figure it's long overdue for the story to check back on Nanoha by now, and I'm not sure if Mage ever edited it (Darkenning once got a look at it, though), I figure it might as well fit into the current chapter...

Magic is what you want it to be.

My Little Ferret: Ventriloquism is Magic.

After yet another particularly hard day of being hammered in the face by the beautiful girl with the sad eyes, Takamachi Nanoha staggered into her bedroom, teetered on the edge of the bed for a few moments, and then fell flat on her face, burying her features in the pillow.

Miyuki-neechan peeked in a few moments after. "Are you getting into fights again, Nanoha-chan?"

A very un-Nanoha-like grunt was her only reply.

"You know," Miyuki said, sitting next to Nanoha's prone form, petting the ferret who leapt onto her lap as usual, "I know we all are able to fight to some degree or another, even Mom, and I know that is your way of getting your point across to those who are difficult to befriend through mere words otherwise, but that just isn't the way you should be approaching your day to day relationships, Nanoha-chan. Fighting should only be a last resort. Don't ever become a fighting maniac! Or else, you could turn into a deranged loner shunned by society!"

"Ah-hah," Nanoha tiredly said, without lifting her face.

"Are you actually listening to me, Nanoha-chan?"

"Yes, I am, Oneechan... just like I listen to what Kyouya-niichan and you do every night in the next room."

"Ahhhh," Miyuki said.

"Which is certainly very ladylike and proper and sure not to turn either of you into deranged loners shunned by society," Nanoha said, her face still against the pillow.

"Right," Miyuki gulped.

"So I apologize for my bad habits, and instead, I'll go ask Kyouya-niichan if he can teach me how to be a lady just like you. With his help, I'm sure I could—"

"Ah, a-actually, you, you're just fine as you are, Nanoha-chan! N-Never change, please!"

"Okay."

After Miyuki rather hurriedly left, Nanoha blinked awake and pushed herself up the bed, rubbing her still reddened eyes. "Huh? Say, Yuuno-kun, I had the impression Miyuki-neechan was here? Was she —"

The ferret sitting on her nighstand nodded. "Yes, she was. Don't worry, she only came here to see you were well."

"Oh," she sighed. "Yeah, I can say she's been worried about me lately. Do you think maybe she'll start to look too closely, and—?"

"Oh, no, I don't think she'll be looking into this any further than she already does!" Yuuno said. "Don't worry about that, I'm sure she won't compromise your secrecy! After all, she looks like the type who can appreciate privacy in the family!"

And he smiled, apparently very satisfied.

Nanoha wondered exactly why he looked so sure about that.

Negi/Harem obviously, though in shear number of words and chapter in a single fic Chisame/Matoi seems to be stronger, followed by Fuuka/Fumika, Negi/Arika, Yue/Everyone. At dead last is Kono/Setsu. Setsu/Tsukuyomi is apparently more popular. Just ask Immi...
